What is a Contractor?

When it comes to building your home, a contractor is to the building process as a director is to a play. He is the one who is in charge, who delegates, and calls all the shots. The contractor is the one who is ultimately responsible for the building of a home, and has many duties. Some of these duties may include purchasing a lot, developing a house plan, and scheduling subcontractors and supplies.

 

A subcontractor differs from a Contractor because the subcontractor’s primary job is to aid in the building process. The Contractor still has the overall control, but the subcontractor may take the responsibilities for certain areas. For example, if you were to contract your own home, but you know nothing about building framework, you might hire a subcontractor to take on that responsibility.
