There are several things to keep in mind when creating a floor plan for your home. The following are some tips to help you along the way:
 
  • Make a list of all the features you need or want in a home. Start by thinking about all the things you like or dislike about your current home. Once you have compiled a list, study it to determine your priorities. Place those things at the top of your list. These are the #1 things you want to keep in mind when developing your floor plan.
 
  • Take a weekend to go look at some other houses in your area that appeal to you. Take a notepad along and note some of your likes and dislikes about each house. These homes may give you ideas that you can use when developing your floor plan.
 
 
  • Think about what types of rooms do you want in your home. Make a list of the individual rooms that you would like, and then begin to consider where you would like them to be located. Some questions you might want to consider include:
 
    • Do you want the laundry room near the kitchen?
    • Do you want your kids’ rooms near your room?
    • How far away from the garage do you want your kitchen to be?
    • Do you have a large family that requires a formal dining room?
 
With these considerations in mind, you are ready to start creating your floor plan!
