Assisted living facilities are for people who need assistance with their daily living activities but are not ready for a nursing home. Assisted living facilities are also known as residential care facilities, adult congregate living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, adult homes, and domiciliary care.
Assisted living is the long-term care option that combines housing, support services, and health care for seniors who wish to live independently for as long as possible. Assisted living facilities have staff on hand to help seniors with bathing, dressing, doing laundry, keeping their homes clean, eating, and taking their medications.
Many assisted living facilities also have medical facilities on the grounds. They typically offer dining facilities, as well as social activities for the residents.
They are different from nursing homes in that nursing homes are designed to care for the elderly who are not able to care for themselves and have heath care requirements that need constant monitoring. Assisted living promotes independence and dignity for their residents.
