It can be done quietly and discretely and gets short messages out fast. Text-messages are part of a technology called Short Message Service.
Short Message Service (SMS) is a service available on most digital cell phones (and other mobile devices, e.g. a Pocket PC, or occasionally even desktop computers) that allows the user to send short messages (also known as text messages, or SMSes, texts or even txts) between mobile phones, other handheld devices and even landline telephones.
Another use of text messaging is ordering ring tones and wallpapers. Another is entering competitions. There are also many services available on the Internet that allows users to send text messages for free.
