While cell phones can be a wonderful thing to have if your car breaks down, you need to report a dangerous situation, or call 9-1-1, driving while talking on your phone can be very dangerous. It is very easy to get involved in a phone conversation and miss a stop sign or red light which could lead to you or someone else being injured or even killed.
The following are a few safety tips to keep in mind:
• Keep both hands on the steering wheel at all times. If you must talk on your cell phone while driving, use a headset that allows you to use your phone hands-free.
• Do not attempt to learn the features of your phone such as call waiting while driving.
• Pull off the road if you need to check messages or find a phone number in your phone.
• When possible, use an auto dialing feature or voice activation.
• Keep your phone in sight where you can answer it without having to dig through your purse or a briefcase while driving.
• Do not get distracted by your conversations and drift out of your lane or fail to stop when you should. Many accidents are caused this way each and every day.
