Though most of the time you will see guitar effects being used by the lead electric guitar player in a rock band, many people can use effects. Acoustic guitar players may use a certain type of that makes their sound fuller even without other instrumentation, or they may use another type of guitar effect that makes their acoustic guitar sound more like an electric guitar and gives the music a little more edge. This is one of the greatest advantages of guitar effects – that it is able to make one guitar sound like so many different instruments. Bass guitar players can also use different effects to shut off the sound of distortion in their amp or to adjust volume on the fly.

If you are a new or inexperienced guitar player, it is strongly suggested that you stay away from guitar effects. Although they quickly give your sound a little more depth, you may begin to focus too much on the use of the effects instead of strengthening your guitar skills training. On the other hand, if you’re looking for that distorted electric guitar sound for heavier metal music, that one guitar effect may not mess with your training too much. Guitar effects are not just used by rock or metal bands though. The effects system is used in folk, blues, rap-core, jazz, and even classical guitar music.
