The number one way to care for your bass guitar is to refrain from treating it like a toy. While a lot of bass guitars are going to be bought for children and teenagers, it should be stressed that these are musical instruments and not the same as their toys. Ask them to treat them as they would a violin or a piano, because they are delicate instruments. Another way to take care of your bass guitar is to give it a good home. Do not allow the bass to simply be placed on the floor where it could be stepped on or have something spilled on it. Provide your bass guitar with at the least a stand, but probably more practical a gig bag or case that should be used whenever the bass is being transported or not in use.

Another way to keep your bass guitar in good condition is to clean it often. Most times people work up a sweat when they play an instrument. This perspiration will wear down on your strings and the finish on the body of the guitar. After play, simply wipe down the guitar with a cloth. Another important way to keep your bass guitar going is to not max out the volume on the guitar and/or the amp. No kinds of speaker, including the amp, are designed to be played at their max volumes for a long amount of time. Simply keep your volume down a little bit, and the life of your guitar and amplifier will be extended. There are also a whole collection of bass guitar cleaners out there that will improve the life and durability of your bass.
