Panajachel or Pana is a small bohemian town located at the side of Lake Atitlán, the second biggest lake in Guatemala. It is one of the most visited places in Guatemala.

Like Chichicastenango, it is a great place to shop for Guatemalan Handcrafts. It is also the perfect place to do nothing. It has a lot of small hotels, as well as some very nice five stars hotel.

Panajachel has great hotels and restaurants, some expensive, but most are inexpensive. Buenaventura is an ecological park in Panajachel. There is also a butterfly farm inside Hotel Atitlán and some of the most bohemian places in the country.

Toliman, Atitlan and San Pedro are three majestic volcanoes towering above Lake Atitlan that form the natural dam that contains the lake. At night, spectacular displays of lightning can be seen beyond their peaks from Panajachel. A smaller volcano called Cerro de Oro, on the south side of the lake once contained a Maya fortress in its crater.
