How does a Golf Simulator work?

Each Golf Simulator includes a swing pad and a large screen. The swing pad is powered by a USB Processor that controls a set of infrared sensors that transmit a beam up from the pad. When you make a swing and the golf pad passes over the sensors, it triggers the sensors. Whenever this happens, the data is captured and the input is sent to a calculation engine. This engine records the information and converts it into a statistical summery that allows the screen to show what the golf ball would do if hit like that.

Much like in real golf, you can find yourself in the rough, fairway, or sand. Some programs even allow you to practice your putting.

Many programs will allow you to use different clubs, play different golf holes, or even hook the simulator up to your favorite golf video game. Golf simulators also allow you to play your friends and an electronic scoreboard will keep track of your shots.
