The 4,200 meter "Red Thread," a line painted onto the road, provides the ideal way to explore the places of interest in the center of Hannover without a guide. Hannover’s Great Garden (Grosser Garten) has remained unchanged for more than 300 years.
The gardens feature the most important styles and genres of landscape design. The baroque garden in the French style, the English landscaped garden and the botanical garden are all represented. On a 135 hectare plot, the Hannover electors and kings created the Great Garden (Grosser Garten), the Berggarten, Georgengarten and the Guelph Garden (Welfengarten) – together known as the Herrenhausen gardens. Another major attraction in Hannover is a grotto designed by Niki de Saint Phalle.
