1) Bremen
Bremen, the dynamic heart of north-west Germany and the traditional home of the Bremen Town Musicians is a modern federal state blending traditional values and a cosmopolitan outlook. Together, Bremen and Bremerhaven form the smallest of Germany's sixteen federal states. The Free Hanseatic City of Bremen’s long and illustrious history has been mostly shaped by its pursuit of political and economic autonomy. It is the second oldest city republic in the world still in existence, after San Marino.

2) Hamburg
Hamburg is the second-largest city in Germany, the country’s most important sea port and Germany’s largest foreign trading center. Founded in about 811, during the reign of Charlemagne, Hamburg was one of the great Hanseatic cities and has maintained its prominence down the centuries. This city on the Elbe River also has an elegant side, with palatial department stores along its boulevards, art centers, international musicals, exclusive shopping arcades and the famous St. Pauli entertainment district.

3) Hessen
Frankfurt am Main is Europe's financial services capital and Frankfurt Airport is the largest aviation hub in continental Europe. The state of Hessen, whose capital is Wiesbaden, extends from the Sauerland region in the north to the Odenwald forest in the south and from the Rhön hills in the east to the Taunus hills in the west. Hessen is second to none in the variety of experiences it has to offer. Its natural scenery includes ancient woodland, moorland, lakes and rivers. Evidence of a history dating back to the times of the Germanic tribes, the ancient Romans and the Middle Ages is preserved here. Hessen is located at the intersection of major transport. Hessen's numerous spas and health resorts attract the health-conscious.

4) Lower Saxony
The federal state of Lower Saxony, with its regional capital Hannover, lies in the region between the Ems and Elbe Rivers to the west and east, and the North Sea coast and the Harz mountains to the north and south. The seven East Frisian Islands line up like pearls on a string just off the North Sea coast, each one a recognized North Sea health resort with its own particular flair as well as a spa and holiday destination.
