After landing in Frankfurt, follow the blue signs to passport control and get in the proper line. Your passport must be valid for the duration of your visit. Depending on the length of your visit, you may need a visa to enter Germany.

Frankfurt airports customs is well-organized and rather efficient.
If you have nothing to declare, simply take the green exit. If you are arriving from a country that belongs to the European Union (EU) or if what you are carrying does not exceed the permitted allowances, you can also use the green customs exit.

If you have something to declare, use the red exit. If you are carrying more than the permitted duty-free allowances or if you are importing goods intended for sale or commercial use (regardless of their value), then you must declare these. This also applies to goods that are prohibited or subject to restrictions. These include narcotics, weapons, ammunition, and protected species of plants or animals, parts thereof or products made from these.

Baggage claim is also very easy to find and should go quickly as well. Then simply make your way to your in-airport hotel or your desired mode of transportation into Frankfurt – most likely by train.

If you’ve never traveled overseas before, the best thing to do to beat your jetlag is to make yourself stay up until nighttime, say 8 p.m. Germany-time and get a good nights sleep. Taking a long nap when you arrive won’t really help because then you won’t sleep that night.
