Many worthwhile attractions lie just outside of Frankfurt as well. Here are a few worth checking out.

In Roman Times, the Sallsburg Roman Fort guarded a section of the boundary wall in the Taunus hills. It was started in 83 AD. This fort is the only reconstructed Roman fort of its kind in the world. It houses a museum with an education program and hosts a wide range of events.

Eberbach Abbey is in the heart of the Rheingau, in a scenic valley away from the noisy roads and busy towns. The abbey is surrounded by woods and vineyards, with its gates open to visitors all year. The ancient abbey was used for the film “The Name of the Rose,” starring Sean Connery.

In contrast to the way its name sounds, Bad Homburg, is actually a celebrated health resort with a palace and park offering a perfect places for a day out. There is also a casino in the area, as well as the Taunus spa.
