Youth Hostel

One great way to see Europe – especially for those in their late teens and twenties – is to take advantage of youth hostels. These facilities are basically dorms for travelers. They are typically very cheap, and very handy to area attractions. Some have age restrictions, some do not. One downside is that some of them are rather trashy, however Haus der Jugend, located in the center of Frankfurt on the southern bank of the River Main, is not.

This youth hostel is a fantastic place for small or even large groups to stay in Frankfurt. It is very clean, a lot of rooms have a private bathroom and breakfast is included.

Haus der Jugend has over 400 beds, no age restrictions, no stay restrictions, takes credit cards and has lockers available. There is however a 2 a.m. curfew.

A quick walk across the river will have you in the famous Römer/Town Hall plaza. There are plenty of restaurants, historical sites and entertainment within walking distance. There is a bus stop within a two minute walk where you can take a bus to the main Frankfurt train station that will get you wherever you need to go. There is typically a street flea market along the banks of the river on Saturdays.
