Drinking and driving is a problem for many individuals. There are a variety of online sources, organizations, and other treatment centers that are geared toward assisting those that desire help. Whether they provide you with useful literature, set you up with a counselor (someone to talk to), or lead you in the right direction, there are many outlets for individuals that require treatment.
• MADD
MADD is short for "Mothers Against Drunk Driving" but is an organization filled with fathers, sisters, brothers, grandfathers, as well as mothers. These members are passionate about educating Americans on the severity of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. They offer a twenty-four hour hotline, which provides support to victims, family members, and friends involved in drunk driving incidents. This hotline is also available for those that desire, guidance, emotional support, referrals, or simply a listening ear. They have an easy to read website that offers activism information, suggestions on reading material, statistics, and program awareness resources for those that are interested or in need of assistance.
• SADD
When this organization first began it was named SADD, which is the acronym for "Students Against Drunk Driving." Its mission has since been revamped a bit and it is now known as "Students Against Destructive Decisions. Instead of simply teaching young people how to say "no" to drugs and alcohol, the organization's purpose has expanded a great deal. SADD is now dedicated to preventing students from making destructive decisions. The organization focuses on educating young people about peer pressure, providing assistance for those struggling with depression, teaching leadership skills, offering counseling sessions, and supplying beneficial literature. This organization recognizes the pressures that teenagers face and it strives to help them deal with everyday problems such as underage drinking and drinking and driving. SADD would like to provide students with the tools they need to deal with, understand, and overcome these issues.
• ACA
ACA is known as the "American Council on Alcoholism." It is an excellent organization that is dedicated to education. The people of ACA want to teach the public about the effects of alcohol abuse, alcoholism, and problems that can occur. They focus on treatment and help lead those desiring help in the right direction.
Underage Drinking and Teenage Drunk Driving
Studies completed by SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) state that four out of every five (80%) students have consumed a substantial amount of alcohol by the end of high school. Also, two thirds of twelfth graders reported to have been drunk at some point during their high school years. Teens today struggle with a variety of issues and the best way to help is by educating them. SADD is an excellent organization that was built to help young people make better decisions in their everyday lives. SADD is dedicated to preventing students from making destructive decisions. It does this by educating them about peer pressure, offering them advice, supplying them with informational literature, providing assistance for those struggling with depression, teaching them leadership skills, as well as offering many other helpful tools that teenagers today need and desire.
