A class action lawsuit has been filed on behalf of Greater New Orleans Metropolitan Area homeowner's insurance policy holders whose coverage has been refused or denied since Hurricane Katrina. Fifteen different homeowner's insurance companies that sold all-risk homeowners insurance policies to residents of Louisiana have been named in the suit. The lawsuit is seeking compensatory damages as well as punitive damages for how the insurance companies allegedly conducted themselves and denied the payment of claims to policyholders who endured residential or other property damage or loss brought about by Hurricane Katrina. The lawsuit claims several acts of wrongdoing on the part of the insurance companies in the handling and denial of claims as well as acts that were designed to deny coverage of valid insurance policies. At the time the suit was filed there were 29 named representative policyholders but there are said to be tens of thousands of policyholders that could potentially be involved.
