Pinball Playing Tips

The first pinball tip is simply a suggestion on finding a place to play. Head to your local arcade, bowling alley, or entertainment center to look for a machine. Pinball machines also often end up next to video games, so think about where you’ve seen video games in the past.

As for scoring tips, remember to do what the game suggests; most modern machines will suggest certain high-point moves. Also, keep in mind that you’ll improve with practice. Pinball requires confidence, calmness, and endurance, all of which you’ll gain over time.

To begin, focus on aiming the ball. When the ball rolls onto the flippers, try to hit the ball at exactly the right moment to shoot it towards a particular target. One second late and it goes to the wrong spot; two seconds late, and it goes down the drain. In general, hit the ball as far up the board as you can, so that it will have a greater number of targets it can hit on the way back down. Watch the ball closely to make sure you don’t lose it down the drain. After you’ve learned to aim, you can also focus on hitting combination moves, including repeaters, where you hit the same target several times in a row.

Next, learn to trap the ball. Trapping the ball, means that you hold up the flipper, allowing the ball to rest. This trap allows you to rest, but it also slows down the game so that you can carefully release the ball from the trap and aim it at the perfect spot. You can also learn to tap, or juggle, the ball to the other flipper.

Finally, you can perfect skills such as the death save. The death save involves kicking the machine’s legs (not too hard) at just the right moment so that the ball pops out of the outlane and back into the field of play. This move is very difficult and risky because if you time it incorrectly, you will lose the ball.
