The focal point of your game room will be the games themselves, but you can use furniture and other items to make your room an even more comfortable area. Think about whether you want your game room to have some of the following:

·        Eating Area: Do you want a refrigerator and/or a microwave in your game room? Will you store food in your game room? What about an icemaker or fun non-traditional items such as a popcorn maker? Do you want a spot, such as a breakfast bar, where people can eat?
·        Television: Many people want a television in their game room so that while some family members play games at the tables, others can watch a movie, sing karaoke, or play games on the television.
·        Seating Area: Where will people sit if they are not involved in a game? If people are watching the games, where will they sit? Do you want comfortable couches in front of the television or bar stools by the eating area?
·        Storage Area: Consider using an extra bookshelf or purchasing a wire shelf organizer to keep board games, card games, and game supplies Ping-pong paddles and pool cues should also have a designated storage spot.

In addition, you will want to decide where to place the game tables and furniture. As much as possible, keep people from being in the way and running into each other; in other words, don’t place the pool table between the sofa and the television. If you have a large game table, however, let that serve as the center of the room and work around that, leaving plenty of room to walk. Put small game tables on the sides or in the corners of the room.

Finally, consider whether you want to decorate your game room. Your game room should be a comfortable place, and it will certainly be an active room, so don’t spend lots of money on expensive decorations. Instead, consider casual and contemporary decorations—perhaps a neon sign or old posters on bright-colored walls. Even the decoration should emphasize the casual, fun nature of the room.
