» Introduction to Game Rooms
There is a saying, “We do not stop playing because we grow old. We grow old because we stop playing.” Games not only give us youthful energy, however, but they can also provide us with meaningful and joyous experiences with friends and families. A game room allows families and individuals to bring the fun, bonding, and energy of games into their own home.
A game room, also known as a rec(reation) room, is a room that is devoted to, and designed specifically for, entertainment and games. Ping-pong and billiards tables, as well as smaller games such as foosball and darts, may all fill a game room. The most extravagant game rooms have several large game tables, couches, a television, a mini-kitchen, and a bathroom; they resemble an arcade more than a room in a house.
In addition to game rooms in the home, however, many churches and community centers also often maintain game rooms. These game rooms are open to a much larger audience and thus are usually larger and offer more games than do residential game rooms.
There is no one pattern for a game room. One family’s game room may have ten game tables and no seating area while other families have only a card table and a stack of board games. The unifying factor is the use of the game room to bring people together for recreation.
