First, you need to choose which room you want to remodel into a game room. Many homeowners convert a basement or a garage, while other families have an extra room or both a living room and a family room, so they can afford to convert one room.

When you are considering which room to remodel, keep in mind the amount of space you will need. A ping-pong table, for example, needs an area of approximately twenty-one feet by ten feet because players often stand several feet back from the table. In addition, most game rooms will often be noisy, so you may want to choose a room that is on the opposite side of the house from sleeping areas. Finally, consider whether you want people regularly walking by or through a game room; if not, look for a room at one end of your home.

Once you choose a room, you will need to make sure the room’s utilities can support all the remodeling. Arcade games and other games require a high amount of electricity, and many homeowners want to add a sink or bathroom to the game room. Do you want a telephone outlet or a cable outlet in your game room? You will likely need to call professions to make these modifications to your house, and the more changes you make, the more expensive your game room remodeling project becomes.

In addition, you may want to choose a new type of flooring for your game room. Food and drink spills are inevitable in a game room, so consider installing a hardwood or cork floor that is easy to clean. Cork flooring also serves to absorb sound, which is an added bonus.
