There are certain unwritten rules to follow while playing craps that you should be familiar with before starting a game. First, players should not handle the dice with more than one hand, pass them directly from hand to hand, or take the dice past the edge of the table. Second, the shooter is expected to hit the farthest wall at the opposite end of the table. Third, the dice must not land in the boxman's bank or on any of the dealers' working stacks of money. Fourth, when the dice lands on the chips or markers not in the boxman's bank or the dealers' working stacks, the number that would be on top if the object die is leaning on were removed is the number used to make the call. Fifth, do not try to place money in the dealer's hand or expect the dealer to pass you chips. Dealers are not allowed to touch the players at any time. Sixth, many craps table layout state, "NO CALL BETS". This means that a player is not allowed to call out a bet without having at least the bet amount of chips on the table.

There are also many commonly observed rules of etiquette to be aware of. For instance, when you are offered the dice to shoot, you can pass them to the next player without worrying about offending anyone. However, remember that at least one player must always be the shooter on either the pass line or the don't pass line for the game to continue. Another thing to be aware of is that players are encouraged to tip the dealers, especially if they are winning.
