Fog machines and your health

Fog machines are generally very safe machines. In reality, the dangers from fog machines are not so much from the machines themselves as they are from the potentially dangerous environment the fog creates. Blinded by the fog, people may trip over cords, fall down stairs or run into various objects.

The fog that these machines produce is perfectly safe to breathe, but it can aggravate asthmatic symptoms and cause minor coughing and breathing struggles. Sometimes, these symptoms are a psychological issue but in any case, the best solution is simply to leave the foggy area.

In addition, fog machines are somewhat of a fire hazard. Fog machines generate a great amount of heat, so they are a potential burn hazard to people, and they can spark a fire if you place them near a flammable object. On a related note, don’t put fog machines under smoke alarms as they can trigger the alarms.

Finally, it is important to note that fog machines are safe if you use them according to the manufacturer’s instructions. You can particularly endanger yourself, however, by attempting to create your own fog fluids. True fog fluids are specially engineered, and homemade fluids are often toxic. In addition, while dry ice is occasionally used with fog machines, this is a dangerous chemical, so make sure you educate yourself on its dangers before using it with your fog machine.
