What size sleeper sofa is best for me?

There are several different sizes of sleeper sofas. If space is limited, you might be interested in a smaller sofa and there are small sleeper sofas available. You may choose an oversized chair or maybe a loveseat. An oversized chair seats one person comfortably, but is larger than a traditional chair. A loveseat seats two people comfortably. Although the size varies from sofa to sofa, the average size for a loveseat is 69” wide X 39” deep X 38” high. Loveseats are great for apartments, small rooms, or used as an accent piece to a regular sized sofa. A regular sized sofa will sit three to four people comfortably. Its size averages 92” wide X 40” deep X 38” high and again will vary from sofa to sofa and brand to brand. If the sofa will be placed in a large room and you are interested in seating more than four people, a sectional would be a good idea. Sectional sofas need more space than a traditional sofa. They are capable of seating several guests and are perfect for the entertainer. 

 

The fold out mattress for the sleeper sofa is available in more than one size and correlates with the size of sofa chosen. How many would you like to sleep? What size space do you have available? Answering these questions will enable you to narrow your search. 

 

A twin mattress is smaller and therefore folds out from a smaller sofa. Most likely the sofa will be a loveseat or an oversized chair that folds out into the twin sleeper. A twin mattress will sleep one individual comfortably.

 

This would normally be a regular size sofa that is capable of folding into a queen sized sleeper. A queen size mattress will sleep two individuals comfortably.

 

This sleeper sofa folds out to make a king sized bed. This size is not quite as common, simply because it requires a great deal of space. This would, most likely, be a sectional sofa that folds out into a king size bed.  

 

Sleeper chairs are great for accenting another piece of furniture, placing in a small room, or decorating an extra bedroom. The sleeper chair may actually contain a small fold out bed. Some oversized chairs are coupled with an ottoman to create the sleeping space and no fold out is required.  

A children’s fold out sleeper is a good idea for parents interested in a small bed for naptime or a sofa for a child’s room. This is basically a small futon sleeper. It is a small sofa that opens up to make a mini bed. They are great for naps and even overnight sleeping for toddlers. 

 

Futon sleepers are sofas that are designed to be made out into beds. They may or may not contain a frame and they are available in a variety of sizes. They are super for dorm rooms, any small room, or for children.
