An inflatable bed is here one minute and gone the next. Also known as air mattresses and airbeds, these beds inflate to the size of a standard mattress and then deflate to the size a small suitcase.

Inflatable beds are very popular both at home and on the road because they are flexible and easily stored. If you have a full house during the holidays, simply pull your inflatable bed out of storage and make room for another guest. If you want to go camping, but you also want a comfortable night’s sleep, take along an inflatable bed.

Inflatable beds come in all standard bed sizes (though king-size inflatable beds are hard to find) and inflate via a pump. These pumps are generally either built-in battery-powered models or electric pumps that you plug into a wall outlet; inflating an air mattress yourself is a long and tedious job. Once you inflate an air mattress, all you have to do is simply seal it to lock in the air (like a basketball or flotation device), and you are ready for bed.
