Armoires have an interesting history. This versatile piece of furniture originated in Europe. Throughout history, European people were taxed according to the number of rooms in their homes. Because the closet proved to be one more room on which to be taxed, smart homeowners filled their homes with large furniture to hold their clothes. This large piece of furniture has become known as the French armoire. Due to its size, the French Armoire was also used to store arms and armor which contributed to the name armoire. As needs changed for families, so did the armoire. They were often built from wood off of the family property. The large cupboards were then given to commemorate marriage and were constructed by local craftsmen. Through the years, it has evolved into a useful piece of furniture for the modern family. Its uses are endless.

Jewelry armoires are freestanding pieces of furniture and they make an excellent gift.
The Modern Armoire: This piece of furniture can be an answer to the modern family’s technological and too much stuff dilemma. If you want to conceal a television, expand closet and shelf space this armoire may be the answer. Entertainment armoires come in many sizes, woods, styles and finishes. Truly, there is an armoire to enhance any style present in your home.
