Freelance writing from home can be your dream job. However, that dream job can turn into a nightmare if not handled with responsibility. To work as a freelance writer, it is imperative that you think of your freelancing as a business and yourself as a professional business person.

It is important to put sound business systems into place when beginning a freelance business, in order for it to become successful. To do this you must create a writing schedule. It is easy to let household chores, friends stopping by, phone calls, and a number of other daily interruptions get in the way of your writing when working from home.

Being late to work and missing deadlines is not tolerated when working from an office, you must not get into this habit in your home business either. If your deadlines are not being met, you won’t get paid and won’t get return business. It is easy to procrastinate when you are at home, and before you know it your whole day is gone and you have accomplished nothing on your writing task.

Freelance writers often find that their friends and relatives do not think they really have a job if they are working from home. They may become a bit resentful if you are not available for shopping trips, golf outings, volunteer projects at the school, and the many other opportunities that arise. It is important that you find a balance where you get your writing projects completed on time, while finding time to spend participating in activities that you enjoy.

It is helpful to develop good habits early on in your writing career and stick to them. Good work habits and dedication to your profession will keep in you writing jobs, enabling you to continue working from home or wherever you choose to freelance, and out of that morning drive to a nine to five job.
