A cover letter is always included with an unsolicited manuscript sent to an editor. This letter represents you and your work to the editor. The letter should be no more than one page in length.

In the first paragraph, describe the manuscript you are submitting. Include the title, the type of manuscript, a brief outline of the story, and an approximate word count.

Use the following paragraph to state the reason for sending your manuscript to this particular publisher. If the manuscript falls into one of the themes they are requesting, or why you feel your manuscript would be a good fit in their publication.

In the last paragraph, describe your experience in the field. In this paragraph you might list any credentials of the experts you have interviewed for this piece.

Fold the letter neatly in thirds and include a self-addressed and stamped envelope.
