Encompassing the southeastern portion of the country, the Rhone Valley’s most famous city is Lyon. Geographically, the area is dominated by the Rhone River, which cuts through the region running north to south. Like many other portions of France, it is famous for food and wine. The area also has Roman ruins and a few castles to explore.
The French Alps have glamorous ski resorts and breathtaking scenery. Chamonix is the most famous, and the town’s claim to fame was hosting the very first winter Olympic Games.
