Jacksonville is the 14th largest city in the United States, having 800,000 inhabitants. If you include the surrounding metropolis, which includes four counties and three beach cities, Jacksonville reaches a population of 1,000,000 residents. Jacksonville covers 841 square miles, making it the largest city by land area in the continental United States.

Jacksonville is a major U.S. seaport, boasting four modern seaport facilities, with one of those being one of America’s newest cruise ports. Jacksonville enjoys the status of being the financial and insurance leader of the state. She is also the site of several U.S. Navy bases and the home of the National Football League's Jacksonville Jaguars.

Jacksonville is easily accessible by car, plane and train. Jacksonville has three interstate highways which run through her, and they are interstates I-95, I-295 and I-10. In addition, I-75 is nearby, about 60 miles west of downtown Jacksonville. By car, Jacksonville is 40 minutes from the Fernandina Beach/Amelia Island area and 35 minutes from historic St. Augustine. In addition, you can reach Orlando and Disney World in 2 ½ hours. The drive is 6 hours from Atlanta.


The Jacksonville International Airport (JIA) is about 15 minutes from downtown, if you are driving by car. The airport hosts 15 airlines, which offer 250 daily flights to and from most major U.S. cities. With a short flight, you are in Jacksonville. The flight will take you 1 hour from Atlanta, 45 minutes from Orlando, 2 ¼ hours from New York and 9 hours from London. If you prefer other modes of transportation, Jacksonville is also served by Amtrak trains, with a station in the city.
