Linoleum is sold either by the square foot (in actual squares, some with adhesive already applied, ready for you to peel the backing and stick to your prepped floor) or in a sheet by the roll. The sheet flooring usually comes in 6-foot-wide or 12-foot-wide rolls. When figuring quantity, remember that you’ll need to allow extra for zigs and zags around your room, the nooks under your refrigerator, for instance, or an inset in a bay window. This will require more flooring for these cuts than you might think.
And you’ll want to plan where your seams will lie, avoiding too many seams or placing seams in high-traffic areas. For example, experts recommend that if you need 8 feet of linoleum that you still buy the 12-foot-wide flooring instead of the 6-foot-wide, even though you’ll waste some. This will allow for a seamless look, instead of patching together pieces.
