» How do I care for a Laminate Floor?
Caring for a laminate floor is very easy. Regular vacuuming or sweeping with a dust mop or damp cloth will do it. Occasionally mop the floor with a solution of vinegar and water, or purchase a solution recommended by the flooring manufacturer. Soap-based detergents and mop and shine solutions actually leave a dull film on the floor, so these are not recommended. As well, abrasive cleaners, steel wool, and scouring powder can scratch the floor.
Laminate does handle surface moisture well, but you should take care to not let the core material get wet. If it does, it expands and damages the flooring. This means that you should wipe up spills quickly so that it doesn’t soak through to the core layer beneath the surface.
Unlike hardwood, laminate flooring doesn’t require sanding or refinishing. Just regular upkeep—the basics—is all that’s necessary.
