As you continue to learn more about your level of ability, you might need additional props to help maximize your potential.

·        Bolster: A yoga bolster is similar in look to a back or neck cushion. Many times they are used to relieve stress and strain off the lower back. If you were lying down and felt stress on your back, you could place the bolster under your knees or ankles and experts say that should relieve the pressure. Bolsters can also be used during meditation as a cushion. Many types of bolsters come with a machine washable cover.
·        Wedge: Wedges are also very useful tools in yoga. They can be used in a variety of ways, but the most common is to place it under the heels in squatting positions or under the hips during forward bends. Wedges are most commonly made out of foam, but can also be made out of other materials like wood.
·        Ball: Yoga balls can also be known as “balance” or “fitness” balls. They are great props to use when performing backbends because they support the spine and allow the hips and body to be open. Balls are made out of strong vinyl and many come with their own air pump. They also come in a variety of sizes and it is important to get the correct size that fits you best. Consult with a professional if you are unsure what size you should purchase.
