Many men and women like to exercise outside, but sometimes the weather isn’t always so welcoming. There may be days with rain, snow, wind, etc. where your t-shirt and shorts just won’t do the job.

For instance, say you want to go running when there is cold weather outside. You need to focus on keeping yourself warm but also wearing something that will absorb the perspiration your body is losing. A very popular cold weather garment is called Under Armour. It focuses on absorbing sweat and regulating your temperature and is made out of a material that gives you a full range of body motion. Simple layering after that should keep you warm enough during your exercise. The same rules apply for the lower half, which includes Under Armour tights and layering. If you don’t want to spend the money on Under Armour, there are several other brands that make similar tight fitting and temperature regulating shirts that are available to at everyday retail stores.

Generally, when it is very hot outside, it is understood to wear light weight and absorbent clothing. The heat will already be making you sweat, so you do not want to add to that with your clothing. What is most important when doing physical activity outside in the heat is to stay hydrated. Your body will lose lots of water, and you want to have clothes that let your body breathe. Make sure to ALWAYS drink a lot of water when exercising outside, also!

For a helpful reminder, remember these three layers to consider when you are about to exercise in different weather conditions:

• The Inner Layer: This is the layer that is directly touching your skin. You want this layer to be able to soak up sweat but keep you still feeling dry. If this layer is uncomfortable, the rest of you will be uncomfortable. This layer also helps keep you warm when there is cold weather. A great example of this layer is the “Fitness Tee” for women at underarmour.com.

• The Middle Layer: This layer helps regulate your temperature. This layer is important because it offers insulation. So, even if it gets wet, it is not completely permeated. Good fabrics to choose from would be wool or polyester fleece.

• The Outer Layer: This layer is specifically for water and wind resistance. This layer can be a rain jacket or rain pants of some short that repel the water off of you. Nylon jackets usually do a great job of resistance wind and water.
