Personal development can be described as self-development and/or personal growth. It can encompass traditional concepts of education or training but can also include the development of skills and interests. It is learning to know yourself, your own values and motivations, so that you will have a better understanding of how you can impact those around you.
Another way to look at personal development is remembering that you can often adjust your personality according to whatever situation you’re in at work, at home, etc. But your personal self is something that cannot differ on each occasion. Personal development is a complete transformation from deep within and not just a temporary personality change for each particular situation.
Each person is unique. What constitutes personal development for one may not be development at all for another. Everyone begins the process of personal development at a different place. The key is to determine what traits of your personality have been developed and then identify the areas you would like to experience growth. Perhaps you have interests that have not been pursued. Most people have abilities that could be cultivated. Once you have determined the areas of desired growth, you can begin to set goals and create the plan to achieve those goals.
