Have you ever seen one of those amazing people who can spin plates? They start with just one plate at the end of a long stick, then add more and more sticks and plates until finally they are frantically trying to keep all of them spinning at once.
Unfortunately, many of us live life like that. We’re spinning in what feels like a hundred different directions, desperately trying to keep all the areas of our lives balanced. Rarely do we have time left over for ourselves.
In the business realm, life balance often refers to finding the balance between work and relaxation. While work is a necessity, it often overtakes our lives and we find ourselves living “out of balance.” However, work-life balance does not mean an equal balance. It is unrewarding and unrealistic to try to schedule an equal number of hours for each of your various work and personal activities. Life is more fluid than that. Additionally, your best individual work-life balance will vary over time – sometimes even daily – depending on your particular stage of life. The right balance for you when you are single will be different when you marry…or when you start a new career…or when you are nearing retirement.
Maintaining life balance consists of two goals: achieving and enjoying. Life will deliver the value and balance we desire when we are achieving and enjoying something every single day…in all the important areas of our lives.
