What is Life Coaching?

Ever reach a point in life in which you don’t know where to turn, and could really use someone to help you along? Whether you’re making a career change, setting goals for your future, experiencing a crisis of some sort, or any other challenge, a life coach can help.

Life Coaching is partnering with another person who is skilled in coaching others in particular areas to move your life forward. A life coach listens, asks powerful questions to explore your situation, suggests change, helps you create a plan of action, and guides you through the process. Prioritizing choices and implementing actions is something else a life coach will assist with.

Life coaching is different from seeing a consultant or a psychologist; a life coach is an equal partner who works with you to work through problems together, provide accountability, and encouragement. The difference is that you’re an equal partner, not a subordinate looking to another professional for answers. Life Coaching doesn’t process emotional history or diagnose or treat mental health issues.

What exactly takes place in a Life Coaching scenario depends greatly on the client, the coach, and the personal needs and desires expressed. Coaches often use exercises, role playing, and check-in conversations to keep you moving forward to meet your goals.
