One-on-one
This model can last for one month or one year. However, the thing that distinguishes Executive Coaching is that rarely does one person exclusively coach another for the whole of a life or career. More often a person might have a number of different coaches throughout his or her life who address different things at different times.
One on a Group
There are many successful models in which one coach will regularly meet with a group once a month covering a specified content area. This coaching model will be less personalized and will be very dependent upon the content quality and the chemistry of the group. Usually these groups will be homogeneous.
Co-Travelers Along the Path
Although there is some debate about whether this is a legitimate coaching model, we feel that it has some merit. This model is built around the idea of two or more people c-guiding each other in a casual way. They lean on each other for accountability, too.
One Specific Focus or a Comprehensive Scope
Coaching can be built around the focus of one area of improvement. These areas range from time management to anger management, from life balance to life calling, from understanding a set of financials to creating a presentation, and so on.
At the same time it is customary for an Executive Coach to widen the field of play to include both personal and professional matters. Many executives are finding that long-term sustainable solutions are best gained when one addresses all the moving parts at once.
