Having a company means you sell products. This means you have a warehouse or shipping department. On average, you may have many products leave your warehouse every single day. With all these sales you must have a way to keep track of everything in the supply chain, including when the order is placed to when the product is delivered. If you don’t have a system in place, you may just loose a part of the order process. If this happens, you will find your company will be in utter chaos, and will end up losing money to boot. In today’s business environment, you can’t be without a system to keep track of orders. That’s why logistics plays such a vital role in businesses. ·        Traffic/transportation: Without a good system in place, tracking packages that leave by truck or carrier would be hard. With logistics, this would be a piece of cake. All you would have to do is scan the package into the system, and have the driver scan the package upon delivery.

·        Shipping and receiving: In the shipping and receiving department, having logistics software would make the shipper’s job a lot easier. All he has to do is log the incoming products or whatever it may be into an inventory system. This way everything can be traced. When the package is ready to be shipped, all the shipper has to do is scan the package into the system, acknowledging that the package is being shipped out.

·        Warehousing: Logistics can play a role here as the receiver collects the delivery, scans it in, and sends the stuff to the warehouse for storage. The warehouse clerk takes the package and scans it in, acknowledging the merchandise is now in the warehouse to be stored until sold.

Besides the above, inventory can be better managed, purchasing can keep better records, and even the production staff can better plan how much of a product to produce in a given day. Customer service would benefit from using logistics because that department would have all information available to them so they can help callers who have questions about their orders.
