There are many industries that use logistics, being it makes life so much easier in business. The industries that are impacted work better when they use logistics as they source of software to keep track of everything they do. Here are some industries and how logistics has been effective:

 

·        Ground transportation: As you probably are aware, a truck carrier moves anywhere from a single item to many items at once. The freight is picked up at one facility and delivered to another. If a truck is full, this saves the driver time and money. He doesn’t have to make two trips. Also, freight pricing is formatted in such a way that the more the freight is in the truck, the lower the cost per pound. Beyond this carriers have standard fees they have to pay. The way the whole process is done is time consuming for the truck driver has to pick up the freight, load it on his truck, deliver it, generate a bill for delivery, and then collect payment. By using logistics, you can minimize mistakes and discrepancies in the way the whole process is handled.

·        Air transportation: We all know this one. When dealing with air transportation, delivering freight in a certain time frame is critical. Air freight is not cheap. There are various delivery services available that offer air transportation, but their rates vary. You have such companies as Federal Express, United Parcel Service, Burlington Air Express, DHL, and others. By using, logistics, everything can be monitored so as to make sure regulations are followed and a time frame is also engaged so as to help keep costs down.

·        Ocean transportation: This is no doubt the oldest form of transportation in the world. It is reliable, cost-effective, but on the downside it can be slow. In most cases the time a ship took to get from the U.S. west coast to the Far East is close to 11 days. If we are talking about going from the east coast to Europe, that trip would take 10 days.
