GIS is not only used in vehicles but they are also used in various businesses including banking, insurance, real estate, the government, education, environmental agencies, natural resources, and utilities.
· Business: Those in business that use GIS include banks, insurance companies, the media, real estate, and retail businesses.
· Government: Those in governments that use GIS include the federal government, local government, homeland security, military, law enforcement, emergency personnel, health agencies, and transportation.
· Environmental Agencies: This includes those who take care of water, land, wildlife, and vegetation.
· Natural Resources: The biggest reason to use GIS is to locate oil and gas, especially with the high cost of importing oil today. Other uses are for agriculture, forestry, and mining.
