» How to Use GIS
In order to get the best use of GIS you have to know how to use it properly. The key concept is how to ask the right question in order to get the correct results. Here are steps you need to follow:
· Frame the question: Before you start using GIS you have to know exactly what you want to know. When you know precisely what you want you phrase it in a question. When you do so be as specific with your questions as possible.
· Select the data: You need to select the right data and features to help you determine what methods you will need to use to satisfy the results you want. The data you use can come from any source. These sources could include databases, contact managers, CAD files, the Internet, and others.
· Choose an analysis method that works: After you have selected your data, decide which system or method you want to use based on the question you chose to ask. Then decide how to use this method.
· Process the data: After you have selected the proper method, it is time to process the data. For instance, if you are mapping where you want to go in a certain area, you may need to assign geographic coordinates for that spot to your data so as to get an accurate response.
· The final product: The final step is to see the results of your data and take action based on that data. Your data could be displayed in a digital map, printed as a paper map, or even a spreadsheet. Remember, even though GIS is mainly developed for mapping, the results you get could be in any format you choose.
