Other types of Application Server Software

Another type of application server software that is available and used extensively today is made by Microsoft. This is .NET. .NET has been rising in popularity in the last two to three years that now IT people are considering putting this on their application servers. .NET or .NET Framework is a software platform that allows cross-language development and provides a large standard library.

 

Other application server software programs that are available include Base4 Server and Zope.

 

·        Base4 Server: This is application server software that was created to generate, share, and re-use .NET data layers. By doing this a development team can leverage an existing system instead of create systems from scratch.

·        Zope: This is object oriented web application server software that was written in Python. Zope stands for Z Object Publishing Environment. You can manage the software using a Web-based user interface. 

Application server software is in constant development. As newer technology is created, IT people will find ways to implement it so as to change the way applications are used on servers, making them faster to access and more reliable to run.
