El Salvador's small stretch of the Pacific Coast provides quiet respites, surfing havens, and great resorts. Below are some of El Salvador's more popular coasts:

• Costa del Sol coast: If you want to get away and relax, this is the place to do it. The most famous beach on this beautiful coastline is Playa Costa del Sol, a tiny section of Pacific peninsula that is gradually being urbanized as a tourist resort.
• Costa del Balsamo: La Libertad is a top surfer destination as some of the finest waves are swept into this area by the Pacific Ocean. Not only is it a hot spot tourist resort, but it also fills up with city residents during the weekend. It is the primary beach for those San Salvadorans seeking the sun's rays. Costa del Balsamo is most popular during the dry season from November to April.
• Isla Montecristo: This Island is one of the least developed beaches in El Salvador, and is accessible via La Pita. It is found just south of Playa Costa del Sol at the mouth of the Rio Lempa. Isla Montecristo provides great canoe, bird watching, and horseback riding opportunities.
