The Galapagos Islands are a cluster of some 13 volcanic islands and associated islets and rocks located on the equator, about 600 miles west of Ecuador in South America.

The oldest of the islands are about 4 million years old and the youngest are still in the process of being formed. Actually, the Galapagos Islands are considered to be one of the most active volcanic areas in the world.

Enchanted, mysterious, historical, ethereal, barren, yet full of life, the Galapagos Islands have attracted visitors from all over the world for the past century – the learned Charles Darwin, the Wittmers, presidents, politicians, superstars, biologists, historians and many others frequented these islands throughout their lives.

Luckily, Ecuador and the international community came together early and recognized what a jewel the Galapagos Islands archipelago truly is. Where else in the world will you find yourself stepping over Blue-Footed Booby nests and swimming with sea lions, penguins, sharks. The Galapagos Islands is a living laboratory where anybody can study and learn about life, evolution, and the beauty of nature.
