Most visitors to the Galapagos Islands spend a majority of their visit on a cruise. However, with the islands' unique fauna, vegetation and wild-life, it is a bad idea not to take the opportunity to spend some of your stay in one of the Galapagos Islands hotels. Galapagos Islands accommodations range from very simple to simply elegant. Keep in mind, however, that, essentially, only 4 islands have accommodation. These four islands are Santa Cruz, Isabela, San Cristobal and Santa Maria.
1) Santa Cruz – Galapagos Islands accommodation available on Santa Cruz includes hotels and youth hostels. Some of the more well-known hotels include:
The Red Mangrove Inn – This hotel offers a private on-suite bathroom, a bar, splendid gardens and laundry service. Through the hotel it is also possible to arrange certain activities available on the island; including scuba-diving, kayaking and snorkeling.
Silberstein – The Silberstein offers service equal to any of the other Galapagos Islands hotels with a restaurant, bar, swimming pool and scenic gardens. This hotel even has televisions in every room.
Sol Y Mar – If you want to stay hotel close to the beachfront, Sol Y Mar is where you want to be. As well beachfront views, the hotel has on-suite bathrooms and all the usual services provided by other Galapagos Islands and Ecuador hotels.
Darwin – for those traveling to the Galapagos Islands on a budget, the Darwin is a hostel providing basic accommodations. Don’t worry about quality though, this hostel is clean and pleasant.
Other places similar to the Darwin are the Espana, Flamingo and Nuevo Elizabeth, all of which can be found in the centre of the town.
2) Isabela – Galapagos Islands accommodation on Isabela mirror the island’s more rustic feel – the streets here are still sandy! Available accommodations include:
La Casa de Marita Hotel – This hotel offers elegance on an island. At La Casa de Marita, you’ll find 10 suites within a stone’s throw of the beach with all the comforts of home, including air conditioned rooms and internet service.
Budget accommodation on Isabela Island can be found at Hotel Loja for around $5-10 per night. Service is basic but extremely the stay is a good value for the money considering your location on the globe.
3) San Cristobal – Although San Cristobal is actually the capital of the Galapagos Islands, accommodation on the island is less abundant than can be found on Santa Cruz.
Orca – This is an upscale hotel with 20 rooms. Accomodations on this island are scarce, but this hotel makes up for the quantity with quality.
For those looking for more of a budget feel to their Galapagos Islands accommodation, on San Cristobal, the San Francisco hostel offers basic, but clean, accommodation for around $5 to $8 per person.
4) Floreana – Floreana is the most remote of the Galapagos Islands where accommodation is available. The island, made famous by pirates and buccaneers, is full of mystery and romantic-collusion. However, Floreana only has one hotel – the Wittmer.
