Ecuador has some of the most famous and beautiful national parks in the world. Cotopaxi National Park is home to Mount Cotopaxi, the world’s second highest active volcano (nearly 20,000 feet above sea level). The volcano has erupted nine times in the last 500 years, the most recent occurring in 1942. This park is near Quito, the capital city of Ecuador.

The Cuyabeno Wildlife Reserve is home to an enormous number of tropical birds, making this the world’s largest and most diverse bird sanctuary. Colors flash all around as tourists walk the gorgeous trails and paths throughout the park.

The Cuyamba Coco Ecological Reserve is the largest national park in the country. Over 10 million acres of rainforest and gorgeous land make up this enormous park, located at the foot of the Northern Andes. There are a number of plants, birds and other animals to be seen in this gorgeous location.

Chimborazo National Park is home of Ecuador’s highest point, Mount Chimborazo. The mountain is a unique spot, as it is the farthest point from the center of the earth. This phenomenon is caused by a bulge at the center of the earth, at the equator. While there are other locations on earth higher than Mount Chimborazo’s elevation of about 21,000 feet, this is the highest due to this unusual swelling.
