One of the best resources for educational software is the internet. Discount and electronics stores carry a few titles, but if you are looking for a brand or skill-builder, use your favorite search engine to find what you need. If you type in “Educational Software,” at least one of the results will take you to a site that has gathered links for a multitude of educational software sites, with reviews, ways to get discounted prices, and to read feedback from other users. This information is a good starting point in your search.

However, it would also be wise to talk to other parents with children about the same age as yours and find out what programs their children enjoy. If they feel their children are learning from those programs, it may be that your children will, as well.

The Knowledge Adventure Company has created many titles that are geared to reinforce and teach math and reading skills. Reader Rabbit offers reading games for toddlers up to age 9 that are fun and engaging.

If your child has a favorite morning television show, it may be that you can find an educational software program based on the show. Dora the Explorer is a good example of an educational television show that has crossed over into the software market. The bonus with Dora the Explorer is that the software programs follow the same format as the television show. The familiar format and characters make it easy for very young children to participate and enjoy learning while they play.
