The major benefit of all day programs is two-fold. If costs and available space are not factors, it is proven that children learn more the more opportunities there are for learning. The more time spent in appropriate activities, the more learning they will achieve.
This is especially important for children whose early years allowed for no day care or preschool learning activities. Disadvantaged children who are not afforded early learning opportunities have been shown to close the gap and have continued to achieve at the same pace as their peers who had the opportunity to participate in early learning when they attended a all day kindergarten program.
No one disputes the possibilities for extended learning in all day kindergarten programs. The feasibility of these opportunities is only tempered by the amount of funding available for them. However, it must not be dismissed that children who have never been in an organized classroom setting also have the ability to succeed with parental involvement and encouragement.
