Although it’s possible for both men and women to get a yeast infection, it is a particularly dreaded problem by most women, since about 50% of women in the United States have been diagnosed with a vaginal yeast infection by the time they’re 25, and 75% of women get at least one in their lifetimes. However, yeast infections still remain an embarrassing topic that few people wish to discuss. Thus, women find themselves in this uncomfortable condition with few places to turn for information.

A yeast infection is just an overgrowth of the natural yeast that resides in the vagina. It reaches the point of infection when it is severe enough to have caused the patient to have symptoms. With very uncomfortable and sometimes painful symptoms, it can be more than just an annoyance. Luckily, when taken care of properly, yeast infections are not only sometimes preventable; they are also fairly simple to treat. If a woman is suffering from a yeast infection, she has several options as to how to treat it once it has been diagnosed. And, by taking care to not wear too-tight clothing, to clean properly, and by following a few other tips, the chances of getting another yeast infection can be lowered.
