Talk to a smoker and they are likely to tell you how much they want to quit and how someday they will but they’ll also give you a list of reasons why they haven’t yet or they think they can’t. The following are a few common excuses smokers use for why they haven’t quit yet:

·        Weight Gain: This reason is very popular among women. Many women fear that by not smoking they will spend the time that they previously spent smoking eating and this in turn will make them gain weight. While it is true that many people both men and women do gain some weight when they initially quit smoking that shouldn’t be a reason for not quitting. Try exercising or find a hobby that will fill the void left by smoking.
·        Stress: For many smokers, smoking a cigarette is a way to relieve stress. They see smoking as a way to release all of their stress. Again, exercise can fill the void left by not smoking and help as a stress outlet. Many people also find hobbies to be good ways to channel stress.
·        Environmental Factors: Several things can be considered environmental excuses to not quit smoking such as: having a job where smoking is permitted and the majority of co-workers smoke openly. Another reason is a spouse or significant other or close friends smoke so it would be hard to quit.
